Students will practice ready position presentations, trigger control, shot follow-through, and immediate action drills to build consistent, reliable performance. The training concludes with a qualification shoot to demonstrate safe handling and accuracy under practical conditions.

OVERVIEW

This course requires participants to be legally permitted to possess firearms. The total duration is eight hours, including both classroom instruction and range time to teach the essential elements of defensive carbine use, including setup, safe handling, and proper load and make-ready procedures. Students will practice ready position presentations, trigger control, shot follow-through, and immediate action drills to build consistent, reliable performance. The training concludes with a qualification shoot to demonstrate safe handling and accuracy under practical conditions.

Experience Requirements
While successful completion of Intro to Carbine is not required to enroll, it is strongly recommended for new or infrequent shooters. Students may register for this class but must be able to meet and immediately demonstrate the minimum skills and safety standards required for the class. Students failing to meet and maintain our safety requirements and/or cannot meet and demonstrate the minimum skills required for the specific class may be removed from training. Please ensure you have read through the class description and fully understand our prerequisites before registering.

Background checks are required.

Course Outline:

  • Essential elements of defensive carbine: Setting up your carbine for defensive use.
  • Proper execution of load and make-ready, clearance, and safe handling.
  • Carbine presentation from ready positions: proper presentations from various ready positions.
  • Trigger control: focus on trigger-finger placement, finding the “wall,” and a smooth trigger press without disrupting the sight picture.
  • Shot follow-through: resetting the trigger and firing from the reset, target assessment, and situational awareness.
  • Immediate action drill: what to do when you get a click instead of a bang.
  • Practical assessment: qualification shoot to demonstrate safe handling and accuracy.

 

Firearm Requirements:

  • Semi-automatic rifle or carbine
  • Single point sling recommended. However, any two point or military style carry strap will do.
  • NO FRT, SUPER SAFETY, OR EQUIVALENT TRIGGERS ALLOWED.

 

Magazine Requirements:

  • 3 magazines (1 for firearm and 2 additional)
  • Magazine pouch that can hold your 2 extra magazines

 

Ammo:

  • Estimated round count: 400 rounds

 

Additional Equipment:

  • Long pants with pockets and belt loops
  • Sturdy 1.5" belt,
  • Closed toe shoes (no flip flops or sandals)
  • Crew neck (T-shirt) or button-up shirt (no low-cut neckline)
  • Hydration system or re-sealable water bottle
  • Wraparound eyewear, polycarbonate lenses or non-shattering prescription glasses
  • Recommend electronic hearing protection or earmuffs and earplugs
  • Loading devices (optional)
